Ivan Cash

Sydney Cash is an 80-year-old artist who can’t stop making art. When space runs out and time grows short, his family faces an urgent decision about the fate of his life’s work. Turning the camera on his father’s artistic legacy, a son confronts how a lifetime of compulsive creating impacted their family.

Sydney Cash (b. 1941) is a New York-based artist who gained national prominence in the late 1960s. In a career of 50 years, he has continually expanded his practice by inventing new ways and techniques for making art. His awards include two Pollock-Krasner grants, a NEA fellowship, a NYFA fellowship, and a Felissimo Award. His work is in over 30 museums. His sculpture is in MoMA's collection, they've sold his jewelry in their design stores, and commissioned a collection of kinetic glass vases.

SYDNEY CASH MAKES TOO MUCH ART examines the heightened sensitivity of the artistic condition through the story of a father and son. Beautiful, loving, courageous, unbearably painful and far too familiar, it becomes personal to the viewer no matter how hard you try to keep your distance.

Mandy Patinkin, Emmy Award-winning actor and Executive Producer

What begins as an intimate portrait of an eccentric artist expands into a rich exploration of inheritance, memory, and the burden of a life's accumulation. Deeply personal and quietly profound, SYDNEY CASH MAKES TOO MUCH ART transforms one family's reckoning into larger generational questions: What do we choose to preserve, what do we let go, and what does it mean to inherit a legacy?
